Overview
Nick Spencer is a Christian author, scholar and broadcaster who serves as Senior Fellow at Theos, the UK’s leading religion and society think tank. His work examines the relationship between faith, culture and public life, helping to articulate a thoughtful Christian voice in contemporary society.
He also holds several academic appointments: Honorary Professor at the World Religions and Education Research Unit at Bishop Grosseteste University; Visiting Research Fellow at St John’s College, Durham; Visiting Fellow at the Faiths and Civil Society Unit, Goldsmiths, University of London; and Fellow of the International Society of Science and Religion.
Nick read English Literature and History at Oxford, later completing a PhD in Political Theology at Cambridge. His recent publications include The Landscapes of Science and Religion: What Are We Disagreeing About? (OUP, 2025), Playing God: Science, Religion and the Future of Humanity (SPCK, 2024), and Magisteria: The Entangled Histories of Science and Religion (OneWorld, 2023).
He has presented the BBC Radio 4 series The Secret History of Science and Religion and hosts Reading Our Times, a podcast exploring the major issues of the day through philosophical and theological perspectives.
Nick’s recent talk, “Grace in Conflict: Leading with Understanding in a Divided World,” invites Christians to engage in challenging conversations with grace and humility—seeking understanding across ideological divides, particularly within media and the workplace.
