Overview
Founded in 1804, the Bible Society exists to offer the Bible to every man, woman and child in a language they can understand, a format they can engage with, and at a price they can afford. Motivated by the conviction that God’s Word has the power to transform lives and communities, the Society works across the nations of the UK and around the world, translating, distributing and advocating for the Bible.
Today, under the leadership of Professor Paul Williams (Chief Executive Officer), the Bible Society serves as a catalyst for cultural and spiritual renewal—encouraging meaningful engagement with Scripture in public life, education, media and the arts. Its vision, rooted in the prayer of Isaiah 55:11, is that “the word of God will not return empty, but accomplish what He desires.”
Through partnerships with churches, Christian broadcasters, and creative organisations, the Bible Society promotes initiatives such as Bible 2020, Passion for the Bible, and The Bible Course. Its publishing arm, Bible Society Resources Ltd, produces high-quality study materials, children’s resources, and media content designed to help people encounter the Bible afresh.
For Christian media practitioners, the Bible Society remains a valued partner – demonstrating how thoughtful storytelling, faithful scholarship and cultural engagement can repair the spiritual walls of society and bring hope to future generations.
