Overview
Martin Purnell is a seasoned Christian radio host with a passion for engaging discussion and faith-based broadcasting. He was the former Drivetime presenter on the UK’s first FM Christian radio station, Cross Rhythms City, in Stoke-on-Trent. He also pioneered the legendary lunchtime discussion programme The Soapbox on the national Christian radio station UCB, where he facilitated thought-provoking conversations on faith, culture and contemporary Christian issues.
In recent years, Martin took a step back from direct involvement in broadcasting to focus on family life in Northern Ireland. However, his passion for Christian media has remained strong, leading him to launch Off Grid Christianity, a podcast designed for Christians who feel disconnected from traditional church settings.
Martin has hosted a diverse range of guests including many well-known figures from the UK’s Christian community. Notable guests include broadcaster and author Kate Nicholas, known for her work on faith and storytelling, and Richard Littledale, a Baptist minister and long-time contributor to BBC Radio 2’s Pause for Thought. Worship leaders Noel Richards and Dave Bilbrough have shared insights from their decades in Christian music ministry, while Peter Meadows, a key figure in UK Christian media, and Frank Bennett, who transitioned from policing to workplace ministry, have also contributed their perspectives. These conversations reflect Martin’s deep-rooted passion for exploring faith outside traditional structures and providing a platform for thought-provoking discussions.
