Glenn’s Story – From Addiction to Freedom in Christ
A Christian Vision (CV Global) testimony
I was born and raised in West London, in quite a rough area. I came from a broken family where there was a lot of crime, drug use and alcohol abuse. Growing up, I was hardly ever at home. I was always chasing something new – new hobbies, new experiences – trying to fill a void that I couldn’t really explain.
At fourteen, I dropped out of school because of bullying and started working with my uncle in the building industry. For a while, I thought my life was fine, but deep down I felt completely empty. Nothing seemed to fill that space inside me.
Over the years, I filled my life with things that weren’t good for me. I developed a gambling addiction and reached a point where I felt like I was drowning. On the outside, I looked cheerful and easy-going, but inside I was struggling with depression and hopelessness. I wanted to be free, but I couldn’t find a way out.
One day, I decided to try something new and went to a rock-climbing gym. There, I met someone who noticed a tattoo of a guitar on my arm and invited me to their church’s worship band. I didn’t think much of it at the time and almost forgot – but one Sunday, as I was heading to the climbing gym, I saw the church sign and felt drawn to go in.
Something about that place was different. People were open and real – no masks, no pretence. I had never experienced that kind of love and authenticity before, so I kept going back.
A few weeks later, while driving and listening to worship music, I suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of joy and peace. Tears streamed down my face as a massive weight lifted off my shoulders. In that moment, I knew this was real – God was real – and that my life was about to change.
A friend later asked if I wanted to invite Jesus into my life. At first, I said no. But two days later, I called her back and said, “What was that question you asked me?” That day, I prayed and gave my life to Christ.
Since then, everything has changed. My life now has purpose, joy, and meaning. I no longer feel empty or lost. The thing I had been chasing all along – it was God. It was Jesus. It was His love.
